Get help about Unemployment Insurance in Denmark

Hello,

I am an AP Degree graduate and I am currently on unemployment benefits, but I am thinking of applying for a Top-up after I am done with the A-kasse.
If I have been on A-kasse for 2 years am I eligible for applying for unemployment benefits again after graduating from the top-up programme?

Thank you!

Hi,

if the Top-up itself meets the requirements for graduate rights in the A-kasse, then you can get a new 2-year period with dagpenge.

This means that the Top-up must have a duration of at least 18 months/3 semester.

Because you are receiving dagpenge at the moment, I assume you will have no problem with staying in Denmark the day before starting Top-up and again at latest 2 weeks after finishing Top-up.

New residence requirement

Since you began you current dagpenge period there has come a new requirement for being eligible for dagpenge. Since January 1, 2019 you must have stayed in Denmark at least 5 out of the last 12 years for being eligible for dagpenge. In 2020 the requirement will be 6 out 12 and from 2021 7 out of 12.

You can read more about this new residence requirement here: https://a-kasser.dk/requirement-of-7-years-of-stay-in-Denmark-or-eea/index.html

Hello again, thank you for the answer, but since I did not understand fully the new requirements from 1st of January 2019 I have another question.. Before it was stated that I must have been in Denmark or another EU/EEA country, is it like this still or do I have to have been only in Denmark for the time period?
The point of start is that you must have stayed in Denmark in 5 out of the last 12 years (in 2019). However - if you are an EU-citizen - you can also count periods where you have lived in other EU/EEA-countries. This is due to EU-principles that applies for all EU-citizens.
I assume that you are an EU-citizen. If that's true, then you can count periods where you have lived in another EU-country during the last 12 years.

best regards,
Anders
