Status of the 7-year rule

Hello, I wanted to know the status of the new 7-year rule. Did it clear Parliament? When is this expected to be voted on? What are the chances that it gets voted down?

Hi,

the danish Parliament has gone on summer vacation, and the new year in the Parliament starts on the 2. of October. Before that nothing can be voted about and therefore there will probably not be any new status about the new 7 year rule, before after October 2, 2018.

I can only say that it is off course very frustating for people who can be affected by the new rule, that they have to wait so long, and so close to the expected date (January 1, 2019) where the new rule will be in force.

So, nothing will be approved before after October 2, 2018 - but until that date there can be some indications about if there will be some changes to the current proposal about the new rule.

Best regards,

Thank you very much for your quick reply. So essentially we still can't know IF it will be approved or WHAT will be approved.

Does this also apply to the free Danish classes? I know they were going to make us pay DKK 2000 per course but did this pass or is it also pending approval? (I know this is unrelated to a-kasse but maybe you know).

Hopefully this gets reconsidered. Professionals come to DK to have a level of security they don't have in their own countries. Pulling a-kasse and Danish classes is counter productive.
About the new rule you are right. The new rule is not yet approved in the Parliament, BUT we can by nearly 100% certainty expect that the rule will be approved. There should according to the Government and what have been told in the media, be a majority in the Patliament for the new rule.
So we are sure that there will be this new requirement from January 1, 2019, BUT until it is finally approved (probably in october 2018) there can come changes to the proposal.

About your other question: it is not related to A-kasse as you say, but we know that on June 4, 2018 the Parliament approved that from July 1, 2018 it is no longer free to go to Danish classes.
A module in Danish education will from 1 July cost DKK 2,000.
This applies to schools all over the country.

I agree with your other comments.

My hope is that the new a-kasse restriction gets amended before it passes so that it doesn't apply to Danish/EU citizens that have worked outside the EU for more than 1 year.

In any case, I read that if a person doesn't qualify for a-kasse benefits then he/she might qualify for Integrationsydelse. Can you please point me to the requirements for that? Do you know of any other assistance? Not that I'm planning to lose my job but I like to be prepared for everything and would like to know what my family's backup plan is.
Yes, I agree with you.
As the law proposal is now, it is so that the persons who meets all other requirements for being eligible for Unemployment benefits (other than the new requirement), will instead of "Dagpenge" get the significant lower integrationsydelse.

You can read about the current requirements for being eligible for Dagpenge, on our article here:
https://www.a-kasser.dk/benefits/

You ask if I know of any other assistance...do you mean guide/advice from others or do you mean other kind of insurance/social allowance in case of unemployment?

Best regards,
Anders
Regarding "other assistance" I meant other type of allowance / insurance. I've seen some private unemployment insurances but most are very expensive and who knows if they will be there when we need them? Any decent / not-so-expensive alternatives to a-kasse?
Hi,
the alternative you talk about must be "Lønsikring" - as you say its a private insurance (like any other insurances you buy). Lønsikring is offered by both private insurance companies, but also by the A-kasser as an additional insurance on top of the normal state supported unemployment insurance.
We have also an article/comparison of the Lønsikring offered by the A-kasser, however at the moment only in danish. But if you have interest you can find it here:
https://a-kasser.dk/lønsikring/.
If you consider buying lønsikring please read the conditions very carefully, because often you see that cases you think was covered is not covered, when you read the details in the conditions.

Best,
Anders
Thank you very much for all the info.

It seems the best plan forward seems to wait and see what happens with a-kasse this year. If for some miracle of good sense the government drops this law or changes it so that it doesn't affect EU citizens, then sign up for it. If not, save the a-kasse fee each month (essentially, save money on my own) so that if I ever need it, I can supplemet whatever I get from Integrationsydelse.

Private insurance is always a tricky option and I don't trust it.
