Hi,
I am not sure I fully understand....but I assume that you are going to finish your master this summer. This will qualify you to receive Unemployment benefits (dagpenge) as a graduate.
Normally when a person receive dagpenge, it is because he/she don't have work and are not studying.
But you ask if you can get benefits and at the same time both working AND studying.
Can you study and at the same time receive dagpenge?
It is very limited what kind of education you can participate in when you receive dagpenge. This is because you must be actively seeking full-time job, and be able to start job with 1 days notice, and be available for meetings at the Jobcenter and the A-kasse.
However some kind of educations with less than 20 hours per week, are allowed to participate in and at the same time receive dagpenge.
The decisive factor is whether the education as such gives the right to SU when it is followed as a full-time education. It is not important if you are not entitled to SU, but whether or not the education gives the right to SU.
If you follow a single course, which is otherwise part of an SU-approved education, you can not receive unemployment benefit.
I assume that the course you are planning to be enrolled in is a part of a SU-approved education. For instance all University educations are SU-approved.
Among the educations that you can follow for less than 20 hours a week and at the same time receive dagpenge are HD, MBA, MPA, Real Estate Agent education and Merit Teacher education, as they are not SU approved.
Courses under the Open University ("Åbent universitet" or "Åben uddannelse") Scheme up to 6 hours per week.
It is - in theory - possible to participate in some courses even it they ar SU-appoved. The Universities offers Single Master and Bachelor Level Courses as Open University courses. See for instance the offers from Copenhagen University here: https://evu.ku.dk/english/openuniversity/. I cant say if the one you will follow is offered under the "Open University".
However there are many requirements for being able to follow these open courses and at the same time receive dagpenge. In practice, it is very difficult to be allowed to study courses in open university while receiving unemployment benefits.
For instance you can only take courses that update your own education, not courses that can be part of a new education. For example, you may not study subjects from English if your completed subjects are German and Mathematics. Also, you must not take courses that can be used for the Master part of your education if you only have a bachelor.
Furthermore the teaching on the course must not exceed 6 hours per week.
Finally it is only possible to participate in "Open education" in the first months of your unemployment period. If you are under 30 years old, you can participate in open education within the first 3 months total unemployment. If you are older than 30 it can be within the first 6 months.
The course incl. the exam must be completed before (3 or 6 months).
If you think that your course will be within this "Open course" Scheme and you think you meet the requirements then we will recommend you to talk with your A-kasse about this possibility.
Can you work and at the same time receive dagpenge?
If we assumed that you graduate this summer, get a part-time job, and NOT was going to continue as a single course student, it would under some circumstances/requirements be possible for you to receive supplementary Unemployment benefits ("supplerende dagpenge").
We have answered another user about the possibilty to receive supplementary benefits, so we recommend you to read this Q&A:
https://a-kasser.dk/qa/666/part-time-together-with-supplementary-unemployment-benefits.
Among the requirements for supplementary benefits are that you search full time job, and that you can quit your part time with 1 days notice. (you need a special document from your employer that states that you can quit job from day to day - this is called "frigørelsesattest" in danish).
Contact your A-kasse
If you think your course will fall within the above mentioned allowed courses that is possible to follow for people receiving dagpenge, then we strongly recommend you to contact your A-kasse and get their assesment.
