Doing an unpaid internship while receiving unemployment benefits

Hi, I am an international student that will be graduated in three months and I have a question related to the unemployment benefits. Imagine that during some months while I search for a paid job I am working in a association as United Nations or Unicef. If I am participating in an unpaid engineering internship, could I received the unemployment benefits during those months? Thank you very much.

As a rule any work (no matter if you get paid or not) must be deducted from your
unemployment benefits.
It is because when you get Unemployment benefits you should be ready to take a job at any time (this is the requirement about being available).
You will not be available if you have (unpaid) internship.

But some kind of voluntary work you can have and at the same time get full Unemployment Benefits.

We have talked to some different A-kasser and they say to us that normally there is a good chance that they will accept unpaid internship and at the same time receiving unemployment benefits.

BUT it is an individual decision taken by the A-kasse in each case, so we will strongly advice you to ask your "A-kasse". If you are not yet a member you can apply for membership already now. It will be free of cost for you as long as you have not graduated.

Our website should be seen more as a price comparison website and a guide to choose "A-kasse".

Your question require some special knowledge that we dont have, therefore we recommend that you talk with your A-kasse (when you become member).

Hi, thank you very much for the quick response. I am already a member of A-kasse, in this case how should I know who is my A-kasse?

Thank you very much.
at some point in the past you must have signed up for your a-kasse membership.
Maybe look at the list with all a-kasser here:
Try if you can find your A-kasse at the list and then contact them.

Best regards
