Good day,
I would like to clarify the following situation: I am a Czech citizen who wants to start freelancing and provide IT services for Czech customers. However, I will spend most of my time in Denmark, working from home, and I will return to the Czech Republic only for 1 week every 2 months. I would like to ask:
1. Where am I obligated to pay taxes and social security contributions?
2. I am not clear on how the social security system for freelancers works in Denmark – is it necessary to send monthly advances for social security (for pension insurance), or is pension insurance included in other taxes?
3. In case it is necessary to send monthly minimum advances for social (pension) insurance, how much would it be approximately? I plan to settle in Denmark and later find Danish customers, but I know that for the next 12-18 months, I will work as a freelancer only for Czech customers. I will perform my work home office in Denmark. Therefore, I would like to pay the necessary taxes and contributions to the correct system.
Thank you2. april 2024 kl. 14:34 #629supportKeymasterHi,
I am sorry but we can not help you with questions related to tax. You must contact skat.dk about tax related questions.
In Denmark we do not pay a contribution only dedicated to social security. Social security expenses is covered by the generel tax which everybody who have income from salary or from self-employed business pay..
Contrary to many other EU countries we do not have compulsory Unemployment Insurance in Denmark.
If you want to be covered by Unemployment Insurance you must become member of an Unemployment Insurance Fund (“A-kasse”).
There are no speciel rules for freelancers regarding A-kasse and unemployment Insurance. If you meet the requirements you can get Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”).
See requirements here: https://www.a-kasser.dk/requirements/
Pension is also out of the scope of our website to answer about. Everybody who have a salary pay a little amount every month to ATP. However to get a proper pension you (or your employer) must pay in to a private pension insurance Scheme.
If you have further questions about Unemployment Insurance we will be happy to help you.
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dk
