Hello,
I have been working full time for 1 year 3 months in Denmark. My nationality is Swedish (second nationality) and my income exceeds the a-kasse requirements DKK 263,232 (amount applicable in 2024) for the year 2023.
I became member of A-kasse a bit late.
• My job started on January 2023 and I became member on 15 May
• My job ends on 31 March 2024 and I will still have 45 days left for one year A-kasse requirements to be met.
My questions are:
1. Do you think I am eligible to get A-kasse? Should I wait for 45 more days before applying for A-kasse and registering myself at job center? Please guide me 2. If I don’t get A-kasse and I have to survive on kontanthjælp, how much money normally you get per month after tax? How will i continue paying A-kasse fees while I get kontanthjælp?
Notes:
• my A-kasse support team is the worst, they always have their phone on answering machine and they don’t reply to emails. So you guys are all my only source of wisdom.
• my plan is to get asap out of unemployment, so I am by no means a parasite.

You can not become eligible for unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”) from a danish A-kasse if you have not been member for at least 1 year.
But you also have another problem regarding the income-requirement. The income-requirement is DKK 263,232, however only income earned during periods with A-kasse membership counts towards meeting the income-requirement, AND a maximum of DKK 21,936 can be counted every month.
So only income earned from may 15 2023 can be used, and maximum DKK 21,936 per month to calculate the requirement of DKK 263,232 in income. You may have the option to transfer acquired rights (membership period and income) from the swedish A-kasse, if you were member of an swedish A-kasse before you came to Denmark. It can be either Alfa-kassan or voluntary A-kassa.
And you can transfer your acquired rights from the danish A-kasse to a swedish A-kasse, if you would try to get Unemployment benefits from a swedish A-kasse instead of from a danish A-kasse.Read more about this option here:

You can not get free A-kasse if you receive kontanthjælp.
