Hej,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dk18. oktober 2022 kl. 13:40 som svar til: Neither member of a Union nor A-Kasse – what can I do? #372supportKeymasterHi,
You tell you have not been member of a Union…do you mean an A-kasse (Unemployment insurance Fund)?
In Denmark membership of A-kasse and Union are two different things.
Only membership of A-kasse can give you right to Unemployment benefits.
However I assume that you haven’t been member of either an A-kasse nor Union.
In this case there is not possibilty to have Unemployment benefits in case of unemployment.
In Denmark Unemployment Insurance is voluntary, and therefor only people who buy the Insurance (A-kasse membership) are insured againt unemployment.
However if you will continue to live in Denmark after termination of your employment, there will be the possibilty that you can
get the lower social allowance called “kontanthjælp”. However this is only possible if you dont have money/savings yourself.
But about kontanthjælp you must contact the municipality where you live.
We only guide about A-kasse and Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”), not kontanthjælp.

18. oktober 2022 kl. 10:07 som svar til: Graduate and accompanying family member to an employee #370supportKeymasterHi again,
yes for sure the tenant agreement will be prove enough for a permanent address, if the A-kasse ask you.
The registration of CPR is not important in this context.
About procedure to apply:
we have an article/page about this here: https://a-kasser.dk/member/
But it is simple. You can sign up through our site – use the buttons “Sign Up online”, on this page https://www.a-kasser.dk/unemployment-insurance-funds/.
I can see that your PhD study is within the health sector.
Probably your collegues can help you about what A-kasse to choose.
But we recoemmend to choose an A-kasse targeted higher educated people, and also one that covers your discipline.
Yes you must apply at latest 14 days after graduation. You must tell the A-kasse that you want to be registered with graduate rights (in danish: “dimittendrettigheder”), and that you want to receive unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”).
One more important thing: you must register as unemployed at Jobnet.dk, from the day you want to receive dagpenge from (June 21).
While you have not had a (free) study membership for at least 1 year before graduation, then you must accept a quarantine the first month after registration in A-kasse and Jobnet.dk.
So there will be some period in the start where you dont get paid dagpenge.
Best regards,
Anders, http://www.a-kasser.dk
supportKeymasterHi,
as you say yourself, for a non-EU citizen to be eligible for Unemployment benefits (“Dagpenge”), one must have work permit/right to stay and work in Denmark on full time on the day one apply for dagpenge.
This is due to the requirement that one must be available for the labor market in order to receive dagpenge.
Your own work permit has finished, however as an accompanying family member to a work permit holder, you have the right to work full time in Denmark. We do not guide about residence-/work permit, but refers to SIRI. I think you have to find out what happens to your right to work when your wifes work permit expires.
But assuming you can take any job in Denmark, then we can look at the other requirements.
As an (coming) PhD you have to ways to go when it comes to A-kasse and Unemployment benefits.
However the first one requires that you already have been member and paid to A-kasse during you PhD study for at least 1 year as an employee.
In this way you can qualify for unemployment benefits as a “normal” member of an A-kasse, and get a higher benefit amount, than you will as a graduate (see below).
You dont tell us if you have been paying to A-kasse as an paid employee during your PhD, som we assume you dont have.So you must probably use the special rule for graduates.
We have a detailed article about the graduate rule, so we will not write this here again, but recommend you to carefully read this article:
https://a-kasser.dk/graduates/With an PhD you meet the requirement about the education (duration etc.), however you must be aware that
there also is an requirement saying that you are living in Denmark not only when graduating, but also that you had a permanent address in Denmark no later than one day before the start of your education.Best regards,
Anders Weber, http://www.a-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
I assume in my answer that you have right to work in Denmark, also after your PhD contract ends. As an Indian national you need a residence-/work permit which gives you the right to take any job with one day notice. If you don’t have/can get that it probably don’t give mening to join A-kasse. For being eligible for Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”), you must be available for the danish labor market.
We do not guide about residence-/work permit, but refers to The Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI).
When commuting to work on the other side of Øresund, you must be covered by an a-kasse in the country of work (in your case a danish A-kasse).
The cost of membership varies between DKK 451 to DKK 527 (in 2022). You can see a full list of the 22 A-kasser in Denmark here: https://www.a-kasser.dk/unemployment-insurance-funds/
As a PhD student you have two ways to go regarding A-kasse membership:
1. You can have a free study membership, and if you have been student member for at least 1 year when you finish your PhD, you are eligible for benefits according to the “graduate” rule from first day after finishing PhD.
You can also use the graduate rule if you apply for membership at latest 2 weeks after finishing PhD. But in this case you must accept a 1 month quarantine with benefits.
Graduates get only DKK 13,836 per month in 2022 (with no dependent children).
You can read more about free study membership and the graduate rule on our website, in the “guide section”.2. You can also choose to pay for a normal membership for employees (about DKK 470 per month, tax deductable). If you do that there are other requirements for being eligible for benefits. However you will get DKK 19,351 per month.
You can read more about the requirements here: https://www.a-kasser.dk/requirements/.Yes you will be eligible for Unemployment benefits, even if you live in Sweden and work in Denmark.
However you must be aware that if you become unemployed, the rules say that you must change to an A-kasse in the country of residence (in your case Sweden).
If this happens, you can transfer your earned rights (memberhip periods, working periods) from the danish A-kasse to the swedish. This requires that you get a PD U1 document from your danish A-kasse. This PD U1 document is then used by your swedish A-kasse to have your earned rights correctly transfered and registered.

supportKeymasterHej igen,
https://www.a-kasser.dk/dagpengeret/Med venlig hilsen
Anders WebersupportKeymasterHej Lars,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
I assume that your question is about transfering acquired rights (insurance and work periods) from your home country “A-kasse”, and NOT about transfering Unemployment benefits. Its two very different things and different rules apply.
But in the case that we are talking about transfering acquired rights from your home country “A-kasse” (PD U1 document), the rules are as you say:
within 8 weeks after you have ceased to be insured in your home country you must sign up with an danish A-kasse (we recommend to do it as soon as you move to Denmark), and you must begin work in Denmark and work for at least 296 hours over 12 weeks / 3 months. The “work” can also be as self-employed.
If self-employment cannot be documented via the annual statement (“Årsopgørelsen”), the working
hours in the company can be included in the calculation of the 296 hours, if the company during the period
has been cvr-registered, the company is run more than temporarily and the member declares to run self-employed business. The requirements for being eligible for Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”) as self-employed are similar to the requirements for wage-earners.
You must have been member for at least 1 year and you must have earned at least DKK 246,924 during the last 3 years (in total).
In these two requirements the insurance period and income earned in you home country will be taken into account, if you meet the above mentioned requirements for transfering rights.Income both as wage-earner and self-employed from you home-country can be used.
You can also read more in our articles about these topics:
https://www.a-kasser.dk/transfering-periods-of-work-and-insurance-from-another-eea-country/
https://www.a-kasser.dk/requirements/Let me know if you have further questions.
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
we always recommend to apply for A-kasse membership as graduate (after bachelor). When you have your status registered as graduate (“dimittend”) you will have up to two years to start with receiving Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”).
Can you get dagpenge in the period between February 2023 and August/september 2023?
Nomally a master degree starts right after the summer holiday. In that case you can not get dagpenge.
But in your case its not only the normal summer-break.I think you will be able to get dagpenge, but off course only if you are willing to be available for the labor market – this means you have to apply for jobs, and accept to have meetings with the Jobcenter and A-kasse. You can also not have SU in the same period.
In the period you also have to pay the normal member fee to the A-kasse.
If you are not already student member and has been that for at least 1 year when you finish bachelor, you must accept a “waiting-period” with dagpenge for 1 month.
When you have to start your master you must change status to student again. In this way you can get free membership.
As mentioned earlier – if you should decide to stop the master before its finished, you can get dagpenge based on your registered graduate rights. However you will not have the full 2 year period with dagpenge. The months you already have used will be dedusted in the maximum 2-year period.
If you finish you master you can register again as graduate based on your master degree. And get a new 2-year period with dagpenge.
I will recommend you to get this information confirmed by your A-kasse. If your are not already member you can sign up now as student and ask them about your rights as graduate.
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHej,
Indkomstkravet siger at man mindst skal have tjent 246.924 kr.
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
neither an EU certificate nor a CPR number is necessary to fulfill the requirement for residence and stay in Denmark.
You need to be able to prove for the A-kasse that you stay/live in Denmark. It’s ok to stay with a friend if you don’t have your own address. The formal documents is not important. The important thing is that you live in Denmark.
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
the rule for graduates states that you must have residence and actually stay in Denmark. So registering an address is enough if you also actually stays at the address/in Denmark.
Hope it helps.
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHi,
you don’t tell us so much, but the generel rule is that you can not get unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”) if you are not fully available for the labor market. If you are in an internship you will not be available for the labor market.
You don’t tell us if you already are member of an A-kasse. But after you have graduated you can sign up for A-kasse and will be able to get dagpenge as a newly graduate.
After you have been approved for dagpenge there will be some activities you can participate in and at the same time receive dagpenge. One of these is “virksomhedspraktik”.
As a graduate on “dimittenddagpenge” you can have up to 8 weeks virksomhedspraktik while receiving dagpenge.Read our guide for graduates here: https://www.a-kasser.dk/graduates/
Best regards,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHej Lotte,
Men beskæftigelseskravet (74 timer) lyder således:
Artikel: https://www.a-kasser.dk/ændring-af-dagpengeregler/g-dage.html
Pjece: https://www.a-kasser.dk/materiale/dagpenge/g-dags-pjecen-okt-2018.pdfHåber det kan hjælpe dig.

Anders Weber, A-kasser.dksupportKeymasterHej Camilla,
Anders Weber, A-kasser.dk
