    Hi,

I have been a member of HK A kasse and union for almost 2 years.

My situation right now is that unfortunately my last day at my work place will be at 03.01.2021. However I will be graduating bachelors degree few days after. Therefore I am not sure sure should I register at A kasse as unemployed or wait until I graduate and register as recent graduate? Does then the fact that I will be receive my last salary at the end of January affects anything?

    I really appreciate the help.

Thank you very much and be safe!

    Hi,

if you have been working and have had income during studies, then you (maybe) have two options regarding A-kasse.

If you meet the income-requirement as wage-earner, then you can register as “normal” unemployed and get the unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”) paid out based on your previous income. This will often result in a higher amount compared to the benefits you will get paid as newly graduate. You can read more about the requirements, including the income-requirement here.

However if you only have had part-time job, and therefor don’t have a “normal” income to use as base for calculation of dagpenge, then it will be better for you to register as newly graduated and get the graduate benefits.

You can get dagpenge from the day you stop working, regardless of when the last salary is paid out. But I don’t understand why you have to stop on one of the first days in the new year…so you will get paid for 3 days or what? If you are in a notice period and get paid for full january, then you are regarded as still working and can therefore not get dagpenge before from February 1.

Remember: if you conclude that the best/only option for you is to register as newly graduated, the you must do this at latest 14 days after graduation.

Let me know if you have any comments.

    Best regards,

    Hi,

prefect thank you for your answer!

One more question that I realized might impact my situation. I am doing series of webinars for educational institution from which I am about to graduate and am being payed after each webinar on my nem konto + receiving holiday days for it. I haven’t signed any contract for it therefore i am not sure am i regarded as I am employed when doing those webinars? Last webinar will be held at the end of January last week. Should and can I still be applying as a new graduate?

Thank you very much for your time.

    Happy holidays

    Best regards!

    Hi,

its not whether you have a contract or not which is relevant in relation to A-kasse/dagpenge.

All income which is taxed as “A- eller B-indkomst” can be used to earn right to dagpenge, and will also be deducted in the amount you receive in dagpenge (for January, if you register and are approved for dagpenge for January).

So you should and can register as unemployed graduate, and get the graduate status in the A-kasse from the day you graduate. If this is the best option for you according to my first answer.

However, it is important that you also talk with A-kasse about your income/job for January from webinars etc. You must ask them what the consequences will be for you payment of dagpenge from the A-kasse. If you stop a job (voluntary) after you have started to receive dagpenge, it will normally result in a quarantine for 3 weeks where you can not receive dagpenge. It’s called self-inflicted unemployment.

In princip you need to be approved by your A-kasse for supplementary benefits (“supplerende dagpenge”). You can only have part-time job/income together with dagpenge for a limited period of 30 weeks. But if your webinars will stop by the end of January it should not be a problem.

As you can see from my answer it gives some extra considerations if a person graduate ans have job at the same time. So it is important that you also ask your A-kasse about these things as soon as possible.

    Best regards,
